The Trail des Elfes et Druides is a 20-kilometre trail race with 800 metres of elevation gain, starting from Ventron, a mountain village nestled in the upper Moselotte Valley in the Vosges mountains. This fantasy-themed event takes runners through the deep forests and rounded summits of the High Vosges, in a setting of misty fir groves, mysterious peat bogs, and altitude meadows that seems straight out of the Celtic and Germanic legends that have haunted this massif for centuries.

Ventron, a family ski resort and authentic mountain village at 660 metres altitude, is tucked into a green valley ringed by summits exceeding 1,200 metres. The village, with its Baroque church overlooking granite houses with colourful shutters, is the gateway to the high Vosges chaumes — those wind-swept altitude meadows that crown the rounded summits, or "ballons," characteristic of the range. The Trail des Elfes et Druides draws its inspiration from rich Vosgian folklore: legends of spring fairies, mine dwarves, druids officiating in forest clearings, and elves dancing on the chaumes during solstice nights feed the imagination of this unique race.
