Course
The Aubrac is a granite high plateau scoured by wind, covered in moorland and peat bogs, crossed by cold streams. The Trans Aubrac links Bertholène to Saint-Geniez-d'Olt over 106.5 kilometers, gaining 3,450 meters of elevation across a terrain that alternates between grassy tracks, transhumance paths, and forest trails. No high mountain passes, no 3,000-meter cols — pure endurance running across a wild and isolated plateau in the Aveyron.
The night start from the floodlit ruins of the medieval castle of Bertholène sets the tone: a human adventure first, along a route that gradually descends toward the Lot gorges. The absence of dramatic elevation is offset by distance and potential April heat. Aubrac landscapes — highland cattle, gentians, beech groves — pass in near-total silence. The first ultra trail over 100 km in the Aveyron, founded in the 1990s.
