Grand Raid 73 — Ultra des Bauges

The Bauges massif is not terrain for the faint of heart. From Cruet, deep in the Combe de Savoie valley, the Ultra des Bauges climbs immediately into high alpine pastures and rocky ridgelines — Roche du Guet, Dent de l'Arclusaz, Colombier — before dropping back into the dark forests encircling the regional natural park. The 112.7 kilometers accumulate 7,660 meters of elevation gain, with exposed passages and fixed ropes above the Dent de l'Arclusaz, a ridge that tolerates neither vertigo nor imprecision.

The Friday night start guarantees an opening section in total darkness: headlamps piercing altitude fog, technical passages on wet rock. Limited to 200 participants, Grand Raid 73 remains an artisanal and committed race, far from industrial formats. Cut-offs are tight, aid stations spread wide.
