Course
The Tanargue massif, in southern Ardèche, is a mix of granite and basalt covered in chestnut forests and broom moorland, crossed by fast-running streams. The Taranis Arga Trail introduces a radical format: ten distinct loops of 10 to 13 kilometers each, all returning to Camping de la Marette in Joannas. Runners can stop at the end of any loop or continue. Ten loops equals approximately 118 kilometers and close to 5,000 meters of elevation gain. Total freedom — but the clock runs for 24 hours.
This open format gives the race an unusual dimension: no fixed categories, widely different race strategies depending on ability and objective. A UTMB World Series event for 2026, it draws international runners while keeping its local Ardèche roots. Loop terrain mixes forest singletrack, stream crossings, exposed ridgelines, and technical granite descents. Start 6:30 AM, early September 2026, Joannas.
