Trail Glazig

The Trail Glazig is a 73-kilometer trail race with 2,800 meters of elevation gain, running along the Goelo Coast and the Pink Granite Coast in Cotes-d'Armor, Brittany. The start is in Plourhan, a coastal commune situated between Saint-Quay-Portrieux and Binic. This race is an ode to the wild beauty of the northern Breton coastline, a course that traces the contours of one of the most spectacular coasts in France.

The name "Glazig" refers to the traditional Breton costumes of the Saint-Brieuc region, richly embroidered with vivid colors. It is a nod to the deep cultural roots of this race in its territory. The Trail Glazig is not merely a sporting event: it is a celebration of Breton identity, its coastline, its traditions, and its character.

The course follows the GR34, the famous customs officers' path that encircles the entire Breton coast. Runners move along sheer cliffs, secret coves, fine sand beaches, and rocky chaos sculpted by the ocean. The Pink Granite Coast, with its extraordinary geological formations of pink granite shaped by erosion, offers landscapes of surreal beauty. The fantastically shaped rocks, the granite masses balanced above the water, and the changing colors of the stone as light shifts compose a natural tableau unique in the world.

The 2,800 meters of elevation gain result from the tormented topography of the Breton coastline. The coastal path ceaselessly climbs and descends, following every rocky headland, every coastal valley, every river mouth. This sawtooth profile is typical of Breton coastal trails and proves particularly wearing over 73 kilometers. Legs never get respite; quadriceps are constantly taxed by repeated descents to sea level.

The terrain offers great technical variety. Runners tread smooth and sometimes slippery granite slabs, dirt paths bordered by ferns and gorse, steps carved into rock, passages across pebble beaches, and sections of windswept low heathland. Certain technical passages along the cliffs demand sustained attention, especially in rain or strong wind.

The maritime environment permeates every moment of the race. Iodine-rich air, the sound of waves, the cries of seagulls and cormorants, and sea spray lashing the face are the runners' constant companions. Tides continuously modify the landscape, uncovering rocky foreshores at low tide or submerging passages at high tide. This maritime dimension makes the Trail Glazig a complete sensory experience.

Breton hospitality is on full display. Generous aid stations offer crepes, kouign-amann, galettes-saucisses, and cider.
